OS updating options

Long time no posts -- my profuse apologies, life has taken some unexpected turns.

In the meantime, three readers have sent information about updating the 307's operating system (OS) that users might find helpful:

First, Roland's German site still has OS 1.03 available here as a ZIP file. Click the "M" from the orange alphabet below the image and it will take you to a list of all supported Roland devices starting with M (FYI, this includes the MC 505, 808 and 909 as well). Scroll down to the 307 entry and click the "1.03" to download the 1.5 MB of files. Instructions are available at the nearby "html" link but you'll have to copy the text into Google translator. Thanks to Anonymous for the tip!

Also, and if you have trouble at the Roland Deutschland site, Moonstarr has been kind enough to make a ZIP file of OS 1.03 available on Rapidshare here. Moonstarr says: "Can't remember where I found this but it worked for me from 1.02 to 1.03. Used midi-ox to transfer the SMF files. Instructions in the zip."

Lastly, Ovidiu Dobre has made his hard drive's copy of the OS available, which you can find here. A warning: This link opened a lot of unwanted pop-ups on my computer, so beware.

Thanks once again to all three of you for helping out! I haven't had a chance to try updating my system yet, but I feel better knowing I've got options now.

  1. Just stumbled across this site whilst looking for the latest OS. Very glad to find it as I have been told it sorts out all the annoying glitches involved with the 307.

Now, I am a bit of an amateur when it comes to MIDI, Ive looked into it and it is so much more involved than I first thought! So, my question is: Can anyone give me some more detailed advice as to how to get this OS on to my 307? I have downloaded Midi-ox but I haven't a clue how to use it to get the OS over onto my 307.....Please help!!

Don't know if bares any relevance but I also use Ableton, can this be used to transfer to the 307?

  2. If the instructions aren't obvious on the German site (try the html file I mention above) you may have to hunt around online. The French forum might be a resource -- see my previous post on it.

If you find out something before I do, leave another comment -- I'm sure this will be useful to others!

  3. Just found the problem with my setup at least.

Vista does not support MIDI/GAME ports.

  4. http://www.squest.com/Windows/Instruments/RolandMC-307/index.html

This is a software editor for the 307, if you get the uniquest for the 307 it is $99 which i think is cheap when u read what you can now do with the 307 and this software.
